TWO INCH ASTRONAUT RETURN FOR "CHECK PLEASE / HUMORIST" SINGLE
Posted on November 12th, 2024
Exploding In Sound Records is thrilled to announce that Two Inch Astronaut are releasing a new two song single, "Check Please / Humorist," out now. While the band broke up back in 2018, they still had a few songs they had written but never recorded. With the tenth anniversary of their much beloved second album, Foulbrood, looming, the once Maryland based trio of Sam Goblin, Matt Gatwood, and Andy Chervenak decided to get back together and record, once again with the legendary J. Robbins (who recorded the band's last two albums, Can You Please Not Help and Personal Life) at the helm.
The result is a triumphant reminder of Two Inch Astronaut's winding brilliance and intricate hook heavy post-hardcore. The songs are punchy and vibrant, with tangled intensity and enormous melodic brilliance.
A much beloved band of the east coast underground, Two Inch Astronaut are an inspiration to many, a scrappy band that earned high praise from their four full length albums. In the years since, the members have remained busy playing in Mister Goblin, Des Demonas, Smile Machine, and Deady, among others.
Speaking about the singles, Sam Goblin shared:
"We wrote these two songs in 2018 right before we made the decision to take a break from the band. As the ten year anniversary of Foulbrood loomed, we thought it'd be cool to do something slightly less backward looking than a reissue or reunion, so we reworked these two more recent tunes and finally got around to recording them. We all live in different places now and more than anything it was just great to have an excuse to be together again (and to hang with J Robbins).
Both of the songs are about the solipsism of pursuing anything creative, but the experience of recording them was a nice reminder of how many great times and irreplaceable friendships came from doing this silly thing, so can't be all bad."
